The GATE 2023 exam will be conducted on the 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th of February 2023 by IIT Kanpur across various centers in India. It will be conducted for admission to the Masters’ program and Doctoral program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and Doctoral programs in the branches of Science and Arts. The GATE exam has two more new papers: Marine Engineering & Naval Architecture and Geomatics Engineering. Hence, there will be 29 papers for the GATE 2023 examination instead of 27 papers (old) available as options to get admission to IITs, NITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) in India.

What is GATE Exam?

It is a national-level examination that is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of NCB-GATE for admission to postgraduate engineering (ME/ M.Tech) or research courses at top colleges in India such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, etc. and for PSU recruitment (at BHEL, GAIL, HAL, IOCL, NTPC, ONGC, PGCI, etc.).

GATE 2023 Notification

Last year's GATE 2022 notification was released on July 27, 2022. The Organizing Institute usually releases GATE Notification on the last Sunday of July. However this year, IIT Kanpur has already released the notification along with the information brochure, updated exam syllabus, exam pattern, etc. on July 27, 2022 (Wednesday).

GATE 2023 Eligibility Criteria

GATE 2023 eligibility criteria are released. A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or has already completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2023 exam.

GATE 2023 Exam Pattern

Before appearing for the GATE Exam 2023, candidates should be aware of the GATE 2023 exam pattern. GATE 2023 exam pattern is different for each of the 29 papers. Candidates get 3 hours to answer all the questions in the GATE exam. The exam is conducted online as a computer-based test, consisting of 65 questions carrying total marks of 100.
