IIT JEE 2024 Exam Update: Exam Date, Eligibility Criteria, Syllabus & Strategy

IIT JEE 2024

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a highly competitive entrance examination in India for admission to various undergraduate engineering and architecture programs. It is conducted in two main phases: JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

JEE Main is the first step and is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is open to all students aspiring to pursue engineering or architecture programs in India. JEE Main evaluates candidates in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. It serves as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced is the second phase, which is conducted by one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on a rotational basis. Only the top performers in JEE Main are eligible for JEE Advanced. This phase assesses candidates on a deeper and more challenging level in the same subjects.

After clearing JEE Mains and JEE Advanced, candidates have the opportunity to gain admission to some of the most prestigious engineering colleges and institutes in India such as:

  1. Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs): These are the top engineering institutions in India. Admission to IITs is based on JEE Advanced scores. There are 23 IITs across the country.
  2. National Institutes of Technology (NITs): NITs are renowned engineering institutes and offer excellent undergraduate programs in engineering and technology. Admission to NITs is primarily based on JEE Main scores.
  3. Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs): IIITs are prestigious technical institutions that admit students based on JEE Main scores.
  4. Government Funded Technical Institutes, Other State Engineering Colleges& Self-financed and Private Engineering Colleges.

JEE exams are known for their high difficulty level and fierce competition, as thousands of students aspire to secure a seat in prestigious engineering institutions like the IITs, NITs, and other reputed colleges across India.

Success in JEE exams often requires rigorous preparation, including coaching, self-study, and dedication. High scores in JEE can open doors to some of the best engineering and architectural programs in India, making it a crucial step for aspiring engineers and architects.

What are the IIT JEE 2024 Eligibility Criteria?

  • Eligibility for JEE Main:
    • Age Limit: There is no specific age limit to appear for JEE Main. Candidates who have passed their 10+2 examination in the last two years or will be appearing in the year of the JEE Main exam are eligible.
    • Academic Qualification: Candidates must have completed their 10+2 (or equivalent) examination with a minimum of five subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The specific academic requirements may vary depending on the educational board (e.g., CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, etc.).
    • Percentage Requirement: To be eligible for JEE Advanced (for IIT admissions), candidates must secure a certain minimum percentage of marks in their 10+2 examination. This percentage requirement varies from year to year and is announced by the exam authorities.
    • Number of Attempts: Candidates can attempt JEE Main a maximum of three times consecutively, starting from the year they pass their 10+2 exam.
  • Eligibility for JEE Advanced:
    • Performance in JEE Main: To be eligible for JEE Advanced, candidates must first qualify in JEE Main. Only the top rankers in JEE Main are eligible for JEE Advanced.
    • Age Limit: General category candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 1996. There is a relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates belonging to reserved categories.
    • Number of Attempts: Candidates can appear for JEE Advanced a maximum of two times consecutively.
    • Academic Qualification: Candidates must have passed their 10+2 examination (or equivalent) with specific subjects, as per the requirements of the participating IITs and the JEE Advanced conducting body.
    • Percentage Requirement:  Similar to JEE Main, candidates must also meet the minimum percentage requirement in their 10+2 examination.

What is the IIT JEE 2024 Syllabus?

  • JEE Main Syllabus:
