About UPSC 2024

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the central recruiting agency responsible for selecting candidates for various prestigious civil services and administrative positions in India. Established on October 1, 1926, it conducts a range of competitive examinations, including the Civil Services Examination, Indian Forest Service Examination, Engineering Services Examination, and Combined Defence Services Examination, among others.

The Civil Services Examination, often regarded as the most challenging, is held annually and is the gateway to some of the most esteemed positions in the Indian bureaucracy. These positions include the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and various other Group A and Group B services.

The UPSC plays a critical role in upholding the merit-based recruitment system, ensuring that candidates are selected based on their knowledge, aptitude, and abilities. It also conducts the Indian Forest Service examination and Engineering Services examination, which pave the way for careers in forest management and engineering services, respectively. The UPSC’s recruitment process is known for its high level of competitiveness and thorough evaluation, making it a symbol of prestige for those who successfully qualify. The Commission operates independently, guided by the principles of fairness, transparency, and impartiality, in selecting individuals to serve the nation in various administrative roles. It has been instrumental in shaping India’s bureaucracy and administrative structure, with its selected candidates contributing significantly to the country’s governance and public service.
