  • Introduction of new subjects.
  • Slight modifications in the exam pattern.

    • 10 questions worth 15 marks.
    • This assessment encompasses inquiries related to both verbal and numerical proficiency.

• Subject-Specific Section:

    • Contains 55 questions worth 85 marks.
    • Questions focus on the candidate’s chosen subject.

6. Mark Distribution:

  • 1-mark and 2-mark questions are distributed across the paper.
  • General Aptitude accounts for 15% of the overall score, whereas the subject-specific portion comprises 85%.

Marking Scheme

Understanding the marking scheme is crucial for devising an effective exam strategy. Here’s how marks are allocated and deducted in GATE 2025:

For MCQs:

  • 1-mark questions:
    • Correct answer: +1
    • Incorrect answer: -¼ (0.25) marks

For MSQs:

  • No negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • Partial marking is not applicable; all correct options must be selected for marks.

For NAT Questions:

  • No negative marking.
  • Candidates must enter the exact numerical value within the acceptable range.

New Subjects in GATE 2025

GATE 2025 has introduced two new subjects, increasing the total number of disciplines to 31. These additions aim to make the exam more inclusive and cater to the evolving academic and professional landscape. The new subjects are:

  1. Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI):
    • Covers topics like machine learning, data analytics, and AI techniques.
  2. Energy Systems:
    • Focuses on renewable energy, power systems, and sustainable energy solutions.

Candidates can choose up to two papers from the available combinations, as permitted by the exam authorities.

Changes in Paper Combinations

To provide greater flexibility, GATE 2025 has revised its paper combinations. Candidates can now opt for a wider range of subject pairs. For example:

  • Mechanical Engineering (ME) can be paired with Energy Systems.
  • Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) can be paired with Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI).

This change allows candidates to showcase expertise in interdisciplinary areas, which is highly valued in today’s job market.

Syllabus Updates

While the core syllabus remains largely unchanged, slight modifications have been made to some subjects to include the latest advancements and industry demands. Key updates include:

  • Computer Science (CSE): Addition of topics on quantum computing and advanced algorithms.
  • Electrical Engineering (EE): Revised to incorporate smart grid technologies.
  • Mechanical Engineering (ME): Emphasis on robotics and automation.

Candidates are advised to thoroughly review the official syllabus for their chosen subjects to avoid missing out on any topics.

Key Points to Remember

  1. Negative Marking: Be cautious with MCQs to avoid losing marks due to negative marking.
  2. Time Management: Allocate time wisely between General Aptitude and the subject-specific section.
  3. Accuracy: Focus on accuracy, especially in NAT questions, as there’s no negative marking.
  4. Mock Tests: Practice mock tests to get accustomed to the CBT interface and improve speed and accuracy.
  5. Selection of Papers: Choose paper combinations that align with your strengths and career goals.

Preparation Tips for GATE 2025
